THE NINTH COMMANDMENT

“The heart is like the ‘rudder’ of the soul. Where it goes, so goes the soul. This next (Ninth) Commandment – ‘Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s wife’ – is a Law, like all the others, which must be obeyed in the heart first. The soul must with prudence avoid any envy of another’s wife, always respecting the marriage vows taken by any couple. In today’s society, marriage is not an important institution. Many couples do not even marry before living as one. Those who do marry, do not see it as a guideline towards future desires. To such as these, marriage is not an obstacle to any envious desire.

People who transgress this Commandment, have no scruples as to what is good and what is evil. This is encouraged by entertainment, clothing and literature, not to mention modern-day forms of communication. The heart has to desire to stand firm on the path of salvation by obeying this Commandment. He has to let the Commandment stand guard over his heart.

When the Pharisees heard that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together, and one of them, an expert in the Law, asked him a question to test him: “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” Jesus answered him: “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your spirit. This is the greatest and the first commandment. The second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets depend on these two commandments.”

EL NOVENO MANDAMIENTO
Nuevamente veo una gran llama que he llegado a reconocer como el Corazón de Dios Padre. Dice: “El corazón es como el ‘timón’ del alma. A donde él se dirige, se dirige el alma. El siguiente mandamiento –No codiciarás la mujer de tu prójimo– es una ley que, como todas las demás, tiene que obedecerse primero en el corazón. El alma debe evitar prudentemente cualquier codicia de la esposa de otro, respetando siempre los votos matrimoniales de cualquier pareja. En la sociedad de hoy, el matrimonio no es una institución importante. Muchas parejas ni siquiera se casan antes de vivir juntos. Los que sí se casan, no ven el matrimonio como una pauta para los deseos futuros. Para este tipo de personas, el matrimonio no es un obstáculo para cualquier deseo codicioso.”

“Las personas que transgreden este mandamiento no tienen reparo sobre lo que es bueno y lo que es malo. Esto es fomentado por el entretenimiento, la ropa y la literatura, y no se diga de los medios de comunicación del mundo actual. El corazón tiene que tener el deseo de permanecer firme en el sendero de la salvación obedeciendo este mandamiento; tiene que permitir que el mandamiento vigile su corazón.”

Cuando los fariseos se enteraron de que Jesús había hecho callar a los saduceos, se reunieron en ese lugar, y uno de ellos, que era doctor de la Ley, le preguntó para ponerlo a prueba: “Maestro, ¿cuál es el mandamiento más grande de la Ley?”. Jesús le respondió: “Amarás al Señor, tu Dios, con todo tu corazón, con toda tu alma y con todo tu espíritu. Este es el más grande y el primer mandamiento. El segundo es semejante al primero: Amarás a tu prójimo como a ti mismo. De estos dos mandamientos dependen toda la Ley y los Profetas”.
